Celebrate Your Femininity
by Cyn Knispel-Ehrhart of Prairie Diapers
Menstruation. It's a natural part of who we, as women, are. Beginning with the onset of puberty and ending during menopause, our bodies are ever changing. Our reproductive selves are constantly repeating just one of the cycles that nature designed. With the exception of pregnancy and breastfeeding, our bodies will complete this cycle for perhaps 40 years! Many women dread the time of the month as menstruation approaches. Our hormone levels raise and lower. Those changes can make us feel differently. Some women experience irritablity, food cravings, restlessness, headaches, and cramping. Other women don't feel much difference at all. Have you ever noticed that you do your best thinking during certain times of the month? What about inspiration and creativity? Are you more self-confident and at peace with yourself during specific times of your cycle? As women, we are empowered by our changing hormones. By listening to our bodies and becoming aware of the differences that make us female, we can reach new heights of success and happiness in each of our lives. Women have been entrusted with the unique gift of being able to bring new life into the world. No other species on this planet has the capabilities that human beings do to think, to create, to love, to learn, and to make our world safe for every other kind of living thing. As women, we nurture that life from the beginning of conception. Our bodies protect and feed, give birth and nourish, then teach and love each child into adulthood. We can instill the basic concepts of life in each child that we raise. That is an awesome responsibility. In exchange, we realize that love cannot be measured, that there are no boundaries to the happiness our children return to us, and we learn so much about ourselves by looking through our children's eyes. We become better people from the inside out. Our emotional nature makes us more intuitive. We readily sense what others may need. We can look into a heart by seeing into another's eyes. We can feel another's soul by merely holding a hand. It doesn't make sense to fight against our nature. The cycle of menstruation is much more than getting your period. Womanhood has a rhythm, a unique pulse that beats in the distance. Listen to yourself. Use your gifts wisely. Trust in who you are. Celebrate your womanhood!
